RIP OFF A MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION?
WHO ME? WITH MY REPUTATION?
'And though I'd be the first one to say that I wasn't a saint,
I'm finding it hard to be really as black as they paint.'
From 'Reviewing the Situation', sung by Fagin in 'Oliver' by Lionel Bart, 1930
And thankfully His Honour, Judge Richard Seymour QC, didn't think I was as black as Renault painted either!
The Judge's point by point dissection and dismissal of Renault's claim against me and the evidence
of its witnesses must have left them all reeling, as His Lordship pulled no punches
about exaggeration, fabrication, duplicity and incompetence on the part of (variously)
Renault, its employees and lawyers.
But the Judgement didn't exactly go all my way.
I suppose that for justice to be justice it has to be even-handed and, as a result,
despite Renault's claim being dismissed, I still came in for criticism from His Lordship.
Thankfully, His Lordship's words about me were nowhere near as excrutiating as those he reserved for Renault and its employees; nonetheless it wasn't pleasant reading
about my own shortcomings.
But I still had to be grateful for His Lordship's tenacity in wading through the bullshit
thrown at him by Renault and its witnesses and for reaching the only reasonable conclusion.
